One Page Executive Summary

Yes, you too can shorten your multi-page Executive Summary down to one-page.

Why?  Because the intent of an Executive Summary is just that...succinct, compelling.

Larger summaries are fine but call them what they truly are, Proposal Overview or Proposal Summary, and feel free to go up to 20 pages (for large multi-binder proposals).

For maximum impact the one-page Executive Summary should address three topics:

1.  Explain in your own words a compelling statement of what the bid-issuer is looking to accomplish, and the driving purpose behind this RFP.

  • This is an ideal place to introduce the risks and opportunities that exist with this venture.
  • This is a strong selling technique as it demonstrates your industry knowledge and points out your past experience.

2.  Introduce your solution, along with key benefits the buyer will receive.  Ideally only your solution can deliver these benefits.

  • Now explain how your solution minimizes the risks and capitalizes on the opportunities introduced in section one.
  • Demonstrate how your solutions will protect the buyer when they select you.

3.  Why You...explain your strengths over other bidders.  Explain your past experience in delivering similar solutions to other clients.

  • Yes it is OK to drop the names of recognizable firms you have already served, so long as the solutions are near-identical.
  • Ideally tell a brief story why those firms selected you over other suppliers.

A compelling one-page Executive Summary sows seeds of interest, leading the reader to learn more.
